Present: Lee Ann Anderson, Wally Bengtson, Sherry Campbell, Pastor Mary Fiel, Mark Hansen, Sharon Peterson, Mitzi Steffen and Donna Whitney.Absent: 0
Pastor Mary opened with devotions from Isaiah 40:10-11 and a prayer. Chairperson Wally called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm.
Secretary’s Report: (Lee Ann)• Mark motioned to accept the November 9, 2021 minutes as printed. Sherry seconded and the motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report: (Donna)• Donna mentioned that our trash service will be going up unless we sign up for auto pay at the bank. After discussion it was decided that Lee Ann will check other local trash companies and report back next month with prices. • Wally questioned our propane costs for this winter. We had agreed last month to go with the amount budgeted and keep an eye on it. • Lee Ann motioned and Mitzi seconded to pay all bills for this month. Motion carried.
Pastor’s Report:• Pastor Mary thanked the council and the congregation for helping in collecting money to send to the Nigerian University fund that is lead by Bishop Svennungsen.• Applications will be available to those in need to access funds that are coming from our involvement at the Shalom Shop in Cambridge. Currently Mark and Connie Hansen are volunteering and representing Siloa. Anyone, member or not, needing assistance for food, housing, heating, etc. will be able to apply for help.• Pastor Amy Strydom will be leading the January 31st service at Salem when we worship with them. Pastor Mary will be on vacation. Pastor Sue of Long Lake Lutheran will be on call to help members needing pastoral care.• Pastor Mary will be splitting her income with $25,000 going towards housing and $39,000 being her base salary for the following year. • Siloa’s share of pastor’s mileage for this month was $45.79 and expenses were $22.96.• Mark motioned to accept and pay these amounts and Sherry seconded. Motion carried.
Property Committee: (Mark)• New light fixtures have been installed in the annex. The old ones are gone.• It was questioned if the vacuum is fixed and working. Mark said that it has been done for a while now.
Christian Discipleship Committee: (Sharon)• Eight birthday cards and three thinking of you/get well cards were sent this month.• Sharon brought up the idea to help victims of the recent devastating tornadoes in Kentucky. After discussion it was agreed that our church will collect relief money for the next three Sundays. The money will be sent to Lutheran Disaster Response.• Cheer bags will be filled Sunday after worship and distributed by members.
Stewardship Committee: (Sherry)• January and September are our months to provide workers for the Braham Food Shelf. • Sherry had a committee meeting last Sunday to go over a proposed budget to present at the annual meeting in January.• Snowplowing was questioned for this winter. Wally will check on prices.
Worship and Music Committee: (Mitzi)• The piano will not be tuned before Christmas Eve. • After discussion it was decided not to have communion on Christmas Eve. This has been our tradition but was questioned this year.
NEW BUSINESS:• Kitchen remodel: Lynn Erickson, Wendy Dawn Bengtson and one more person will serve on the new remodel committee for the kitchen. They will meet after Christmas. • Pastor’s Salary: The executive committee met at Salem to review proposed budget for pastor’s salary. • Continuing education for the pastor will change to $500.00 by redistributing proposed budgeted funds.• The pastor’s mileage may go up. We will watch the amount to determine if more funds need to be allocated.• Donna will be gone much of the month of January. She will have Wally pay bills in her absence.• All reports need to be to June Bengtson by the 9th or no later than the 11th of January.• Siloa’s Annual Meeting is January 23rd following a pot luck.• Our next council meeting will be January 11, 2022 at 6:00 pm.
OLD BUSINESS:• Mark Hansen, Mark and Cindy Broman and Bob Anderson burnt two large piles of brush in the ball field and in the church yard.
Mark made the motion to adjourn at 7:00 pm.
